CECC confirms 65,833 more COVID-19 cases, including 65,794 domestic cases and 39 imported cases

On May 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 65,833 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 65,833 new cases, 65,794 are domestic and 39 are imported (18 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced 38 deaths today.

Regarding the 65,794 new domestic cases, 31,827 are male and 33,947 are female, while the gender of the other 20 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years.

Of those domestic cases, 18,400 were reported in New Taipei City, 9,772 in Taipei City, 10,184 in Taoyuan City, 4,770 in Taichung City, 4,979 in Kaohsiung City, 2,844 in Tainan City, 1,917 in Keelung City, 1,481 in Yilan County, 2,105 in Hsinchu County, 1,124 in Hsinchu City, 1,613 in Changhua County, 1,536 in Pingtung County, 1,200 in Hualien County, 1,129 in Miaoli County, 581 in Yunlin County, 405 in Taitung County, 614 in Nantou County, 556 in Chiayi County, 345 in Chiayi City, 81 in Kinmen County, 146 in Penghu County, and 12 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 38 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 16 men and 22 women ranging in age from 30 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 39 new imported cases, they were 16 men and 22 women ranging in age from under 10 to 79 years. Of these 39 cases , 3 cases arrived from the United States, and 36 are being investigated. They all arrived between May 3 and 16, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 9,729,489 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,830,935. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 896,059 cases. Of the 896,059 confirmed cases, 12,301 are imported; 883,704 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 1,135 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 1,135 deaths, 1,120 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
