Security Assistance to Ukraine: The State Department’s Role

In May 2022, President Joseph R. Biden signed the Additional Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act, providing more than $40 billion in security, humanitarian, and economic assistance to Ukraine in the wake of Russia’s invasion. As the lead agency for many key foreign assistance authorities, the Department of State is playing a vital role in ensuring that the Ukrainian government has the necessary tools to resist Russia’s war of aggression and provide relief to civilians impacted by war. Please join the CSIS Arleigh Burke Chair in Strategy for a discussion on U.S. efforts to assist Ukraine in defending its sovereignty, how the United States can continue to assist the Ukrainian people, and how the United States can marshal its partners and allies in Europe and globally to defend Ukraine.
