THE SWAMP — A bowhunter in Georgia recently put out a corn pile to attract white-tailed deer. It's a pretty standard strategy that has been used by hunters for generations. Deer love corn. Put some of that sweet stuff on the ground and you're likely to lure one in.
But the thing about bait is you never know what it's going to attract. Check out this video to see the unexpected guest who showed up instead of this hunter's trophy buck:
What would you do if a gator decided to stake out your hunting spot? Would you try to scare it away with loud noises? Lure it back to the swamp using raw chicken?
In this situation, the hunter apparently opted to wait it out. But that didn't work out too well.
"It was just another afternoon in the climbing stand for a bowhunter in Macon County, Georgia," the video caption states. "Then he hears something coming, and with anticipation he tightens his grip on his bow. … Like a scene from Jurassic Park, a huge alligator appears, lumbering through the pines before laying down in a corn pile. He was hunting in planted pines more than 1,500 yards — almost a mile — from a river and retention pond where a 13-foot alligator is known to reside. Before dark, the alligator lumbered away, but not back toward the river. Instead it went toward the hunter's truck!"
Sounds like an absolutely nerve-fraying encounter for this unlucky hunter. And it just goes to show the wisdom in the old saying: He who tosses corn in the woods should be prepared for all kinds of visitors.
