Good Thursday evening. This is Daniel Allott with The Hill’s Top Opinions.

It’s hardly surprising that Donald Trump’s most loyal supporters are convinced he’s getting a raw deal in the wake of the FBI’s raid of his home at Mar-a-Lago.

But they’re not the only ones who think this. Many non-Trumpist conservatives believe it too, writes BERNARD GOLDBERG — conservatives “who wish Trump would take a vacation in Outer Mongolia and not come back until 2025, if then.”

Goldberg, an Emmy and an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University award-winning journalist, writes that many thoughtful Republicans remember that “it was an FBI lawyer who lied to a judge to get a warrant during the investigation into Trump’s supposed collusion with the Russians.”

“If the FBI lied then,” Goldberg hears conservatives asking, “why should we trust them now?”

“And why is Trump in the DOJ’s crosshairs, they ask, while Hillary Clinton, who also was accused of mishandling classified documents, barely got a slap on the wrist?"

These conservatives are starting to “wonder if there’s one set of rules for Republicans and another for Democrats.”

These questions will persist at least until the Justice Department reveals more details about its justification for searching Trump’s home, and probably long after.

Ultimately, “Trump supporters may very well turn out to be way off-base in what they think motivated the raid at Mar-a-Lago.” Then again, “Just because you’re paranoid, as the saying goes, doesn’t mean they aren’t after you.”

The CDC is broken, and apologies can't fix it

By CARL SCHRAMM, member of the COVID Commission Planning Group

It is not a small issue that CDC personnel undermined respected scientists outside of government who quarreled with mask mandates, social distancing, shutting schools, closing businesses, and promoting universal vaccination with serums whose known risks to some were downplayed. All this while dismissing Americans who doubted that the CDC had a monopoly on “the science.”

The media myth of Democratic momentum

By JOE CONCHA, media and politics columnist

Unless conditions on the ground change, don’t expect the president’s poll numbers or his party’s dim prospects to change much as it pertains to control of the House of Representatives. The party in power almost always loses seats. And don’t expect that to change in 2022, despite the euphoric headlines.

As monkeypox spreads, we must not repeat the failures of COVID-19 and HIV

By RANIT MISHORI, professor of family medicine at the Georgetown University School of Medicine

From mounting stigma and misinformation, to botched testing and vaccine rollouts, to the widening inequities in care, the parallels between Monkeypox, COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS should cause officials to reevaluate and redirect their approach to this latest public health emergency.

Ban the culture war from classrooms

By WILL MARSHALL, founder and president of the Progressive Policy Institute

Today’s cultural warriors want to indoctrinate by telling kids what to think; our public schools should expose kids to facts and reasoned arguments and help them learn how to think for themselves.
