The 50 ‘rattiest cities’ in the US, as ranked by Orkin

Orkin has released its 2023 list of the “rattiest cities” in the U.S. The list ranks 50 of the nation’s busiest metro regions by “the number of new rodent treatments” performed over a period of 12 months. Chicago took the top spot for a ninth consecutive year.

Cursive handwriting to be taught in California schools

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 446 into law on Oct. 13. The new law requires that children in first through sixth grade learn cursive handwriting. 21 states require cursive in public school curriculums.

Fisherman earns over $100K for catching, removing problematic species from rivers

Salmon in the Pacific Northwest face a number of challenges, including hydroelectric dams that impede their migration and predators that reduce their numbers. To help salmon get a leg up, wildlife officials in several states offer reward programs for catching northern pikeminnow, which feed on young salmon.

The median cost for a vaginal birth in the United States is about $13,000 for someone using an in-network doctor. That cost varies by state and health insurance provider, though. In some states, the maximum price for a vaginal birth is closer to $20,000.
