Myrick, president of People for the American Way, thinks our collective response to Trump “would be different if more people knew they could be targeted and their lives upended.”
Myrick cites the 900-page “Mandate for Leadership,” produced by the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, which has been described as enabling “Trump to wield virtually unchecked power over the executive branch of the federal government and allow him to use it as a weapon against personal enemies, political opponents and the media.”
Some 50,000 nonpartisan civil servants could also be purged, Myrick warns.
Then there are millions of illegal immigrants, who would be at risk of mass internment and deportation, Myrick says, and peaceful protestors who'd be at risk of being “crushed by military forces under the Insurrection Act.”
Myrick names many other groups who’d be targeted by Trump’s retributive second term, but you get the point.
Sadly, says the author, most Americans, including many Trump voters, don’t realize they’d be targeted.
“Maybe we’d be much more concerned — and be more motivated to act — if we realized just how many of us and our friends, acquaintances and loved ones are already on the enemies list.”
