California bill would require new cars to beep at speeding drivers

“Passive speed governors, also referred to as passive Intelligent Speed Assistance…warn drivers with audible and visual signals when they exceed the speed limit by greater than ten miles per hour.” The California Senate has passed SB 961, which would require “passive speed limiters” to be installed in all new cars manufactured or sold in the Golden State by 2032. The European Union has a similar law set to take effect in July.

Bark Air launches as first-ever airline catered to dogs

Bark Air is launching Thursday. Launched by the pet company Bark, the new airline aims to put pets front and center. A domestic flight costs around $6,000 per ticket, while international tickets cost about $8,000 each.

This is the ‘most religious’ state, according to new study

The Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute at the University of Utah used data from the U.S. Religion Census to determine which state is the most religious. The number one state was Utah, with 76.1% of residents adhering to a religion. The next highest state was Alabama at 63.6%.

Supreme Court declines case on gender identity policy in schools

Montgomery County, Maryland has a “Parental Preclusion Policy” that instructs schools not to inform parents of students’ gender support plans without student consent. The Supreme Court refused to take a case Monday that would take up the issue of whether the Maryland school policy violates the rights of parents. Three parents with children attending public schools in Montgomery County appealed a lower court’s ruling holding that they lacked the necessary legal standing to challenge the school policy.

Feature of the Week: Commercial building to apartment conversions rose 17 percent last year

Adaptive reuse projects, like turning old hotels and empty offices into apartments, are on the rise. In 2023, 17.6% more apartments were converted from outdated buildings compared to the year before, according to a report from RentCafe. Manhattan is home to the largest number of converted apartments in the country.
